When Hannah first entered the Pathways For Change program—a paid on-the-job trainee and employment initiative at our For Change Cafes—she was in a tough spot. After escaping family violence, she found herself homeless, sleeping on couches until she was able to secure transitional housing.

Hannah completed her traineeship at For Change Cafe, Middle Park, where she found joy in everyday situations, building relationships with regular customers and learning every dog’s name that visited.

Through For Change Co, Hannah gained essential skills in empathy, teamwork, and leadership. More importantly, she discovered her self-worth and confidence.

Looking ahead, Hannah’s biggest goal is to encourage businesses to work with programs like For Change Co. She believes these partnerships benefit both the businesses and the trainees, helping to change the lives of young people.

Levelling up with our Trainer Workshop ✨

We recently held a trainer workshop for our venue staff across our social enterprises. This was a great opportunity to refresh the skills and knowledge of our trainers to ensure they develop and support our trainees as best as possible.

Through our paid training and employment program, Pathways For Change, our cafe venues act as the training venue for our trainees to build skills and confidence, which is why it is so important for our team to create a safe and positive work environment!

We just had an awesome Trainee Takeover Day at our Brunswick cafe! A huge success, our trainees did a great job running the venue smoothly for the full day and serving up delicious coffee 🌟

These days are an amazing opportunity for our trainees to showcase how far they’ve come with their skills and all that they’ve learnt throughout our program. They also play a crucial role in empowering our trainees to foster their confidence and growth by managing the cafe independently. ❤️

Our trainees have been making incredible strides lately! They're serving consistently delicious coffees at our @forchange.cafes earning rave reviews from the community, and progressing through their modules in our Pathways For Change Program!

What's Pathways For Change? ⤵️

Pathways For Change is a paid training and employment program that equips young people with the experience and support they need to create their own paths out of homelessness. Each of our cafes provide the training venue for our trainees to build skills and confidence to create their own pathways out of homelessness 🌟

Since 2018, we've paid over $400k in award wages to our trainees and supported 126 young people in breaking the homelessness cycle.

HUGE ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED!

Nine years ago, when we launched Crepes for Change, we never imagined the huge impact we would have. That's why we're incredibly proud to announce that we've officially surpassed $400,000 paid directly to our trainees through our Pathways For Change program! 🎉

But what exactly is Pathways For Change?

Pathways For Change is a paid training and employment program that equips young people with the experience and support they need to create their own paths out of homelessness. Referred through our partners, participants complete three modules at a For Change Cafe to build vital skills and confidence. Upon completing the program, they are connected with our network of Open Shift partners for permanent employment opportunities or supported in pursuing further education. ✨

And why are wages important?

Paying our trainees award-rate wages is a game-changer and a core value we firmly believe in. It provides young people with a reliable income and teaches crucial financial management skills, whilst demonstrating a respectful workplace relationship and increasing self-worth. This combination is essential for breaking the cycle of homelessness and creating lasting independence.
